Purpose Statement
Gainesville State College Black Student Association's
purpose is to culturally educate our campus through
workshops, seminars, forums, speakers, and activities.
The members will also invest in their community through
participation in outreach programs, tutorial sessions,
and various fund- raising projects. BSA also believes in
an open door policy, which means that we extend an
invitation to everyone who is interested in becoming a
member. BSA emphasizes helping to build and support the
African-American community and other surrounding
cultures.
Expanding the Vision
Although the club is called the Black Student
Association (BSA), we want any student who is
interested in being involved in our club to join.
Anyone is welcomed and treated just like everyone else.
This year we are eagerly looking to get that point
across as we are actively involved on campus and
continuously encourage other cultures and different
backgrounds to come and be a part of BSA.
If
for any reason you feel offended or out of place please
pull one of the officers aside and let them know what is
going on, and the issue will be addressed. We want to
make everyone feel comfortable and step outside of their
shell as we all expand our mind to look at things from
many different perspectives.

Club History
The Black
Student Association (BSA) was founded by Professor Theresa
Dove-Waters current a Religion and Education Professor in
the Department of Social Sciences here at Gainesville State
College. At the founding time of the organization, she was
the Director for the Office of Minority Affairs and
Multicultural Programs, which is currently housed in the
Student Center. At that time, the college name was
Gainesville Junior College and the name of the organization
was the Multicultural Student Association. The group was
very active and they focused on tutoring on campus students
in need, they donated to the community and their focus was
inviting speakers on campus to educate the community/faculty
and staff about various cultures. Currently, BSA continues
to have the community focus and the commitment to educating
the campus about cultural programs. The group welcomes
enthusiastic, motivated, interested members who want to work
hard to accomplish different task.
WELCOME to BSA, one of the most
active organizations on the Gainesville State College
campus.
