Deadline for applications will be July 1 preceeding each academic year.

Under the leadership of Nathaniel Shelton and Robert Thorpe, a dream has been realized for students in Gainesville Community who might need financial support to attend Gainesville College with the establishment of the Mattie Moon Scholarship.

This scholarship is a product of the efforts of the Gainesville community and Gainesville College.  It was established in memory of Miss Mattie Moon, a prominent black educator and community leader who dedicated 57 years of her life to education and students at Fair Street School, Butler High School and Gainesville High School before she died in 1986.

Guidelines

Applicants for the Mattie Moon Scholarship should:

  • Be a U.S. citizen and a GA resident

  • Have been accepted for admission to GSC by the scholarship deadline date

  • Demonstrate financial need and academic ability

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation

  • Enroll for a minimum of  10 semester hours

Preference will be given to career plans/goals of teaching, social work, church-related professions, criminal justice, or the military.

A student receiving aid during the first year will be eligible to reapply for the scholarship during subsequent years of enrollment at GC provided that the funds are available and the recipient maintains satisfactory academic performance and continues to need financial aid.
