Under the leadership of Nathaniel Shelton and Robert Thorpe,
a dream has been realized for students in Gainesville
Community who might need financial support to attend
Gainesville College with the establishment of the Mattie
Moon Scholarship.
This scholarship is a product of the efforts of the
Gainesville community and Gainesville College. It was
established in memory of Miss Mattie Moon, a prominent black
educator and community leader who dedicated 57 years of her
life to education and students at Fair Street School, Butler
High School and Gainesville High School before she died in
1986.
Guidelines
Applicants for the Mattie Moon Scholarship should:

Be a U.S.
citizen and a GA resident

Have been
accepted for admission to GSC by the scholarship deadline
date

Demonstrate
financial need and academic ability

Two (2)
letters of recommendation
-
Enroll for a
minimum of 10 semester hours
Preference will be given to career plans/goals of teaching,
social work, church-related professions, criminal justice,
or the military.
A student receiving aid during the first year will be
eligible to reapply for the scholarship during subsequent
years of enrollment at GC provided that the funds are
available and the recipient maintains satisfactory academic
performance and continues to need financial aid.
